Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra loses S Pen Bluetooth functionality Leave a comment

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra shipped with the S Pen, but without the functionality we’ve grown to love. We’ve got terrible news for you: Samsung slashed Bluetooth connectivity from the new S Pen, meaning it’s no longer useful for anything other than writing and drawing.

If you haven’t remembered, the S Pens inside Galaxy Note 1 through Note 8 only worked with your screen’s digitizer. The Note 9 officially introduced S Pens as the first Bluetooth devices. It allowed users to manipulate images, play/pause music, take pictures, and scroll through them using Air gestures.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra no longer has the S Pen Bluetooth functionality. The pen still performs as well as last year’s S24 Ultra, but Samsung removed this feature.

Pens with 0.7mm tips still have 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, but styluses don’t. Many owners of the S Pen use it only for drawing and writing, not for its Bluetooth capabilities, according to Samsung. As a result of this change, Samsung’s phone prices remain competitive.

That’s right! Even though most people don’t care about Air Actions or Camera Clicker, they are still considered desirable features. Hence, downgrading flagship smartphones has become a point of contention in the community. There is, however, an upside.

Because the S Pen is Bluetooth-enabled, the phone’s S Pen slot wirelessly recharges its internal battery. Now, the pen does not require a battery. The S25 Ultra shouldn’t have a problem keeping its screen on for longer, and its pen and phone are both slimmer without wireless charging coils.

As a result of the new S Pen, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra variant is narrower and thinner, and the screen size is also 0.1″ bigger. Because it occupies less space, the display is upscaled, and Samsung even gave it a larger heatsink to cool down the Snapdragon 8 Elite. It is ultimately up to you to decide if the trade-off is worth it in the end.
